TELEGRAPH & Argus readers have been sharing their thoughts on the news that a salon owner is preparing to open her salon on Saturday in defiance of current lockdown restrictions.
Despite racking up £17,000 in Fixed Penalty Notices for previous lockdown breaches, Oakenshaw hairdresser Sinead Quinn has indicated she will open the salon on January 30 - a day dubbed as 'The Great Reopening'.
A comment on Instagram from the salon in response to someone asking about what it meant said: “Yeah we’re all opening regardless of lockdown. They can’t control us all when we stand up to them.”
The Telegraph & Argus approached Ms Quinn for a comment but did not receive a response.
The news has sparked anger among readers on the T&A Facebook page.
Janet Greenhough wrote: "Some people just never learn .... its not about making a stand ... its about trying to minimise the risks of a horrible death in the intensive care unit.
"I feel for all those affected badly because of lockdown legislation but we have to try something to beat this and the sooner people start actually following guidance the sooner we can all get our lives back.
"Actions such as this are delaying much needed hospital treatments and early diagnosis for cancer patients etc As well as increasing the spread . We all need to play ball because if we dont all get onboard then we wont see an improvement any time soon and more people will die needlessly as a result of this sort of stupidity."
Sheila Patchett added: "As much as I will miss my hairdresser I feel we are all in this together? Staying at home saving the NHS? It’s not difficult?"
Julie Taylor Guy added: "We all want our hair cutting but not at the risk of others we all need to follow the rules or we will never get out of this."
And Faye Gration said: "This is ridiculous! As a salon owner I would never put my staff or clients at risk. We are locked down for a reason.....people are dying. We’re all out of pocket but things will return but for now everyone must stay safe."
David Park wrote: "She should be made to watch the pictures of our hospitals fighting to save the lives of people that have been on TV these past few days. Her actions can mean many others being in hospital in the coming days and maybe herself. I just can't understand her."
Asim Rashid added: "I can understand frustration when it comes to peoples businesses as it may well be their only source of income. Unless an alternative is provided I reckon you will see more and more of this."
Others said they supported her stance.
Dave Arnold said: "Good for her, if the people that use it know the risks then that's up to them let her run her buisness."
John Popple added: "Good lass, small businesses are going to have to make a stand at some point!"
Free Nation West Yorkshire, which says it's "creating support networks and communities" in Yorkshire against "oppression and tyranny", wrote on Twitter: "Well done. We will be supporting her."
'Johnjo' added: "Go girl."
While Hayley B added:
Hayley B said: "Good for her. Take note folks."
