A DEVELOPMENT of eight flats could be built on a plot of land in Shipley if new plans area approved.

A planning application for an apartment building on land off Springhurst Road, near Northcliffe Park, was submitted to Bradford Council last week by R. Bezzant.

The land is next to the former Shipley Synagogue site, which has recently been re-developed as housing.

A similar application for flats at the site, by Oak Tree Developments, had been withdrawn in 2019 after a flood of objections from local residents.

The new application says that previous plan had been withdrawn to allow for further ground investigations and design improvements.

It adds: "However, the original Applicant has decided not to advance a further application."

As well as attracting objections from residents, the Friends of Northcliffe Park and the Coal Authority had objected to the previous application.

The new application says the flats would all be two bed, and the plans also include parking space for 13 cars.

The application adds: "The proposal aims to make beneficial use of this unallocated, vacant and sustainably located site to provide eight high quality apartments, complemented by a scheme of hard and soft landscaping.

"The proposal is functional, visually attractive and sympathetic to local  character, as a result of good architecture, layout and appropriate landscaping."

A decision on the application is expected in March.
