The young people's support service, Connexions, is to come under Bradford Council's control from April next year.

Members of the executive will be asked to support the transfer process at its next meeting at City Hall on Tuesday at 2pm.

Connexions is a Government service for young people aged 13 to 19 in England. It also provides support for young people aged up to 25 who have learning difficulties or disabilities.

It helps provide information, advice, guidance and access to personal development opportunities for young people.

In Bradford it has contracts with several organisations which work with young people, such as Careers Bradford, Education Bradford, Bradford College, and the Council's Youth Service.

Councillor Colin Gill, the Council's executive member for services for children and young people, said: "Connexions is a vital service which helps to ensure young people gain access to the relevant information, guidance and advice and it's important we make sure the transition runs smoothly.

"Partnership work between Connexions and other bodies in Bradford has also helped tackle the rate of young people who are not in education, employment or training and the figure is coming down so this is an example of the positive work being done."
