These 161 Bradford schools shut to pupils today for snow

THERE are 161 Bradford schools that have been forced to close to pupils today.

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for the city yesterday, which runs into today until 9pm.

Heavy snowfall is expected in areas covered by the warning and Highways England has had a number of gritters out around the clock to treat roads and keep them free from disruption.

There are 161 schools across the Bradford district that have had to close in some form today.

Out of that total, 149 are fully shut to ALL pupils.

The remaining 12 schools are described as being partially closed.

Nine of those schools have shut at different points throughout the day.

Both Abbey Green Nursery School & Children's Centre and Midland Road Nursery closed at 11.45am, while Eden Boys' Leadership Academy, Bradford shut at 12pm and Glenaire Primary School closed its doors at 12.30pm.

Baildon C of E Primary School and East Morton C of E Primary School both made the decision to shut at 1pm, while Menston Primary School asked parents and guardians to pick students up between 1.15pm and 1.30pm.

Finally, Eastburn Junior and Infant School and Wibsey Primary School are closing from 2pm.

Most schools have been teaching children of keys workers and vulnerable students face-to-face, and providing remote learning to all other pupils, since the country was plunged into a third lockdown last Tuesday.

Two schools are still offering provision in person for children of key workers and vulnerable students, despite heavy snowfall, but only if parents or guardians cannot arrange alternative childcare.

These are: Cullingworth Village Primary School and Holycroft Primary School.

Cullingworth Village Primary School said: "We are asking frontline medical/NHS workers to ring us if they urgently need to get into work.

"We will do our best to accommodate their childcare needs with the few staff we have in school."

Parkside School is shut to everyone but Year 11 students who have an exam today - they must still attend for this.
