WEST Yorkshire Police has revealed how many drink and drug driving arrests it made in December 2020.

December is typically the worst month for drink and drug driving offences, partly due to it being the run up to Christmas.

However, this December fell below the monthly average number of arrests in 2020 of 406, which may be down to the proactive Winter Drink & Drug Driving Campaign that police took part in.

Across West Yorkshire, there were 341 arrests made for drink and drug driving offences during December.

This is an average of 11 arrests being made each day.

In total, 164 arrests were made for drink driving, 156 for drug driving, and 21 for failing to provide a specimen.

By comparison, in December 2019 there were 321 drink driving arrests made in West Yorkshire, and in the worst months of 2020, July and August, the number stood above 280.
