DEMOLITION work will have to be carried out at the scene of a major Bradford fire.
Firefighters from across the district were scrambled to Annison Street, in the Leeds Road area of the city, at around 2.45am yesterday, to reports of a four-storey building on fire.
Locals were urged to keep their windows shut, while around 30 residents in the had to be evacuated by Bradford Council’s Emergency Planning Team.
A Bradford Council spokesperson said today: “Our Building Control team has been on site yesterday and today to work with the owner to make the building safe.
"Following further examination of the building, it has been determined that some demolition will be necessary to make the building structurally safe.
"The planning of that work is now underway.”
A West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We still have one fire engine and one aerial ladder appliance, both from Bradford Fire Station, on the scene at Annison Street in Bradford today damping down.
"Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing."
