A dazzling Christmas light show is bringing festive cheer to a Bradford street and swelling the coffers of a good cause.

Carol Montgomery and partner David Davies have put on the lavish display at their home in Haycliffe Drive, Great Horton, Bradford, to raise money for Bradford Cancer Support's Daisy Appeal.

They will ask visitors to make a donation towards the £1.1 million appeal to build a new base for Bradford Cancer Support.

It is the second time the couple, who share their home with Carol's youngest son Stephen, 14, have put on the display for the Daisy Appeal - but this year is extra special as it is the first year it has been put on at the former home of Carol's late parents.

Carol, 46, lost her dad Russell to cancer in May 2006. Her mum Sheila died in 1991 after a road accident.

"When my dad used to come and see us at the other house he always said we could raise money for charity with the display, so that is what we did in tribute to him," said Carol.

"The lights are more special to me this year because it is my first Christmas in my parents' house."

It is also the end of a tough year for Carol, who was herself diagnosed with breast cancer in September this year. She underwent surgery at Bradford Royal Infirmary, followed by radiotherapy in Leeds.

"Bradford Cancer Support helped my dad when he was ill," said Carol.

Carol also has an elder son Gary, 26, step-daughter Sarah, 25, and step-son James, 21, who all helped her through her illness.

"I would not have got through it without them," she said.

"David took time off work to take me to hospital and James has said he will give me £20 for the appeal as he knows what I have been through."

Carol also praised staff on ward 25 at BRI and staff at Cookridge Hospital in Leeds.

"It was a bit of a shock to be diagnosed with cancer but everyone has been so supportive," she said.

"At the end of the day I am going to be ok and I keep a smile on my face."

Linda Enderby, fundraising co-ordinator for Bradford Cancer Support, said: "Carol has supported the charity in various ways over the years.

"This year has been particularly difficult but it hasn't deterred her from continuing her support.

"We are extremely grateful to her and David for opening up their home to raise funds towards our £1.1m Daisy Appeal. I'm sure that visitors will not be disappointed".
