A masked man threatened a store owner with a knife and demanded money.
The incident happened in Bridge Street, Otley, after a man walked into the shop at around 5.50pm on Sunday and produced a rolled-up carrier bag which he said contained a knife.
He then demanded cash but left empty handed after the owner told him there was no money on the premises as he had already cashed up.
Police are now appealing for information on the attempted robbery.
The man has been described as about 18 years old, slim, 5ft 8ins in height, wearing blue jeans, light coloured trainers, a cream coloured zip-up top and a green balaclava.
