Two people from Bradford had a "miraculous" escape after the vehicle in which they were travelling crashed through a fence.

The collision sent four fence posts smashing through the windscreen of the BMW car, narrowly missing the female driver and the male passenger.

The emergency services were scrambled to Chain Bar roundabout, Cleckheaton, after receiving reports that both occupants of the vehicle were trapped inside.

Alex Macfarlane, watch manager at Brighouse Fire Station, said:"About four fence posts went straight through the middle of their windscreen and just missed them both. They were extremely lucky and it was miraculous they were not seriously injured.

"I think they were more shaken up than anything else."

"The casualties were freed by paramedics by the time we arrived.

"The car was travelling down the slip road after coming off the M62 westbound carriageway at junction 26.

"The incident had happened right at the junction of the roundabout."

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: "We got the call from the ambulance service.

"Two people were trapped initially. They did not go to hospital after they were treated on the scene for minor injuries.

"It was a collision between a red BMW and a wooden fence. It looks like it also took out a speed limit sign and the traffic lights as well."

The spokesman said it was unlikely there would be a criminal element to the incident, which happened at about 10pm last night.
