A 27-year-old Somalian man, accused of the murder of Bradford PC Sharon Beshinivsky, made his second appearance before a crown court judge today.

Mustaf Abdullah Jama appeared before the Recorder of Leeds Judge Peter Collier, QC, via a video link from Wakefield Prison, where he is being held in custody.

Jama, who was wearing a grey sweatshirt, answered "yeah" when asked to confirm his name and legal representation at the Leeds Crown Court hearing.

Jama faces charges of murdering PC Beshenivsky, 38, of Hainworth, near Keighley, on November 18, 2005, in Morley Street, Bradford.

He is also charged with robbery, two counts of possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life and two of possessing prohibited weapons.

He was arrested and extradited from Somalia in Africa more than a month ago and flown back to the UK with West Yorkshire detectives.

Judge Collier adjourned the case until January 18 for a plea and case management hearing and further remanded Jama in custody. A provisional trial date has been set for next April.

PC Beshenivsky, a mother-of-three and stepmother-of-two, was shot dead outside the Universal Express travel agents. Her colleague, PC Teresa Milburn, 37, was wounded in the incident.

Two men were jailed last December for a minimum of 35 years for the murder.
