THIRTEEN schools in Bradford are closed today due to the enormous fire which erupted in the East Bowling area yesterday.
Due to smoke billowing from the blaze at an old go kart track where a huge amoung of tyres were being stored, pupils are being told to stay at home for their safety.
The fire started in the early hours of Monday, and 100 firefighters were tackling the blaze which sent huge clouds of acrid smoke across the city.
The following school told students they are staying shut today:
- Bradford District PRU, Anerley Street
- Bronte Girls' Academy, Bolling Road, Mill Lane, Broomfields
- Byron Primary, Barkerend Road
- Dixons City Academy, Ripley Street - students to continue working from home remotely
- Dixons Sixth Form Academy, Bowling Old Lane - students to work remotely
- Fearnville Primary, Fearnville Drive, Laisterdyke
- New College Bradford, Nelson Street
- Rainbow Primary School, Nelson Street
This afternoon, Bradford Council has said the following schools have also closed:
- Dixons Marchbank Academy, Marchbank Road, Barkerend
- Killinghall Primary School, Killinghall Road
- St Mary's and St Peter's Catholic Primary School, Leeds Road
- Byron Primary, Barkerend Road
- Lapage Primary School, Barkerend Road
The fire caused major disruption on the roads and railways yesterday, and residents around the south of Bradford were advised to stay at home and keep their windows and doors shut due to the spread of smoke.
