A FIRE in a compressor room caused extensive damage to a substation building at a factory in Morley in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Firefighters from Morley and Hunslet battled the flames at PPG Architectual Coatings, on Wide Lane, after they were called to the scene at 4.29am.
Jumbo Beaumont, watch commander at Hunslet Fire Station, said: "We used two breathing apparatus and one hosereel to put out the flames.
He said the fire was extinguished in 10 minutes but firefighters spent an hour cooling down the damaged equipment.
"It was an overheated compressor on a big diesel engine," said Mr Beaumont. "Luckily it wasn't in the main building because there was extensive smoke and fire damage."
No-one was injured in the incident, which involved two pumps from Hunslet Fire Station and one pump from Morley Fire Station.
