SOMEONE rang the 999 emergency line...because they found a mouse in their house.

West Yorkshire Police's Contact Management Centre shared details of the call to highlight the importance of using 999 for emergency calls only.

The team often tweets some of the more unusual phone calls they receive from the general public.

The force receives 120 inappropriate calls each day, adding one is too many, as part of its #Not999 campaign.

And this one was no exception.

The team said: "Our #UnsungHeros answer hundreds of Emergency calls every day, unfortunately having a mouse in your house doesn't count as an emergency call... #not999.”

Previous calls to the contact centre included someone ringing 999 to ask them to book some driving lessons for them.

Other examples included a call from someone asking if their bank was open and a dispute over paying a window cleaner.

Another one saw someone ring 999 after knickers were stolen from a washing line during the day.
