CORONATION Street is due to celebrate its 60th anniversary in December and hundreds of actors have come and gone from the cobbles over that time.
Here is a look back at some of those popular characters from Weatherfield and what they are up to these days since leaving the soap.
TRACY BRABIN
Ms Brabin played Tracy Armstrong in 193 episodes of Corrie between 1994 and 1997.
She would later play Carole in another ITV soap, Emmerdale.
Ms Brabin has certainly gone through a dramatic career change, swapping the small screen for the House of Commons.
She has been the MP for Batley and Spen since October 2016, following a by-election after the murder of her friend Jo Cox.
RACHEL LESKOVAC
We had to add in a Bradford connection to the show!
The Bradford actress’ character, Natasha Blakeman, returned to the soap last month after 10 years away.
Rachel first appeared in Corrie 10 years ago as Nick’s girlfriend. She left a heartbroken Nick behind in Weatherfield - but a chance encounter with him last month on the show put extra strain on his already fragile relationship with Leanne Battersby. Click here to read more.
NIGEL PIVARO
He has played one of Corrie’s biggest baddies, Terry Duckworth, on and off for almost 40 years.
Mr Pivaro joined the soap in 1983, playing the wayward son of Jack and Vera Duckworth. He left in 1987 but made regular returns throughout the 1990s and 2000s.
The character returned in early 2012 to participate in a major storyline involving his estranged son Tommy and his girlfriend Tina, played by Michelle Keegan, in which Terry left her to die in a burning railway arch.
He has also undergone a career change and now works as a freelance journalist, after qualifying in 2006.
TRACY SHAW
She played hairdresser Maxine Peacock, Ashley’s wife, on the street between May 1995 and December 2003.
Her exit from then cobbles was dramatic as she was murdered by serial killer Richard Hillman.
She took time away from the spotlight to bring up her children and returned to work and was starring in Theatre Royal Windsor’s production of The Cat and the Canary earlier this year.
KEVIN KENNEDY
Playing Curly Watts on the soap in the 1980s and 90s, Kennedy was one of its most popular characters.
He left the Street in 2003, including a break from the show to recover from alcohol addiction in 2000.
Alongside his wife Clare, he is a director of the Brighton-based Kennedy Street CIO Recovery Charity which helps people interested in recovery from addiction.
He played an angel in the Christmas episode of Mrs Brown's Boys on Christmas Day last year.
Mr Kennedy appeared on Good Morning Britain earlier this year and didn’t rule out at return to Corrie.
JULIE HESMONDALGH
She played one of Corrie’s most enduring characters Hayley Cropper, who swallowed poison in 2014 to end her battle with pancreatic cancer.
Hayley, who was married to Roy, made headlines as the first transgender character to appear in a British soap.
Julie has since starred in TV dramas including Happy Valley and Broad Church.#
CRAIG CHARLES
His character Lloyd Mullaney was a popular figure on the show, sparring with his friend Steve McDonald in the street’s cabbie office.
Mr Charles left the soap in 2015 to concentrate on his long-running role in comedy show, Red Dwarf.
He has also carved out a career as a DJ, with weekly funk and soul music shows on Radio 2 and 6 Music.
MICHELLE KEEGAN
Playing Tina McIntyre, she appeared on the cobbles from 2008 until she was murdered by Rob Donovan in 2014.
She has gone on to great things in TV drama since including starring roles in BBC One’s Our Girl and Sky One’s Brassic.
She is married to reality TV star-turned-radio-host Mark Wright.
SEAN WILSON
He is another former Corrie actor who has gone through a dramatic career change since leaving the soap.
Playing Martin Platt for 21 years between 1985 and 2005 and then in 2018, he was married to Gail during his time on the show.
Since leaving, he has turned to cheese making, running the successful Saddleworth Cheese Company. He is also an accomplished artists, as his tweet below shows.
There’s a pride in these art studies of my 2020 collection.
