A man said to have drunk about 20 pints of beer stood on a bench at a police station and spat at a police officer, a court heard.

Shortly after, when he was searched, Christopher Eustace was found to be in possession of a knuckleduster.

Eustace of Halifax Road, Cross Roads, Keighley, pleaded guilty at Bingley Magistrates' Court to possessing an offensive weapon and assaulting a police officer.

Magistrates imposed a two months' community order for which he was ordered to be electronically tagged and to be subject to a curfew between 7pm and 6am.

Prosecutor Marina Hunter-Gray said police officers arrested Eustace at Cross Roads park for being drunk and disorderly after he began shouting and swearing.

He was found to have a large amount of blood on his hand but officers were unaware how it had happened.

He later stood on a bench at the police station, became aggressive and spat at a police officer. A search found the knuckleduster in a back pocket.

He told officers he was "off his face" and his "head was messed up".

Keith Blackwell, for Eustace, said he had since been reconciled with his girlfriend and was seeking counselling for a cannabis habit. He could not believe how badly he had behaved.
