Police are warning residents to be vigilant after a spate of burglaries in Bradford.

Raiders struck three times in one day at unoccupied houses just a few streets apart. Police believe the burglaries are linked.

The incidents happened between noon and early evening yesterday. In each case a ground floor window was smashed and TVs and computers, valued at about £2,000 in total, were stolen.

The burglaries happened in Upper Castle Street and Gaythorne Road, both West Bowling, and Dovesdale Road, Bankfoot.

Detective Inspector Steve Hopwood, of Bradford South CID, said extra police patrols had been put in the area and crime prevention advice was being handed out.

He urged people at work during the day to make sure they had alarm systems and timer light switches and for residents at home to be vigilant for strangers on the street or cars driving up and down.

He said: "The last thing anybody wants coming up to Christmas is to be burgled. If anyone sees suspicious activity in their area they should call us and we will immediately investigate."

Bradford South Police can be contacted on (01274) 376459. Crimestoppers can be called anonymously on 0800 555 111.
