A man has appeared in court in connection with the car crash that claimed the lives of 15-year-olds Isaac Bishop and Chloe Benn.

Sean Smith, 19, is charged with being a passenger in a vehicle taken without the owner's consent and driven in such a way that it caused the deaths of the teenagers.

Smith, whose address cannot be stated for legal reasons, also faced a burglary charge when he appeared before the city's magistrates.

He is accused of breaking into a house in Thornton Road, Thornton, Bradford, with two others on November 23 and stealing a safe, cash, silver coins and jewellery valued at a total of £25,000.

Smith, wearing a white hooded top and blue jeans, spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth during the 20-minute hearing.

Bench chairman Neil Walker announced that the case would be dealt with at the Crown Court and granted Smith conditional bail to return to the magistrates court on January 21, when committal proceedings are due to take place.
