Weeping teenagers have placed a mound of floral tributes at the spot where two 15-year-olds died in a car crash.

Pupils stood with heads bowed in memory of Chloe Benn and Isaac Bishop.

Flowers, cuddly toys and poems have been piled up in Kipping Lane, Thornton, Bradford, after the weekend tragedy.

A candle stands touchingly amid broken glass outside the Harmony Skin Care Centre where the accident took place at about 10.20pm on Friday.

A floral tribute to Chloe and Isaac, featuring pink carnations, reads: "From all at Thornton Grammar School. You will be sadly missed'."

Rachel Hirst, 15, was among fellow pupils congregating at the scene of the tragedy after school yesterday.

"I was just getting to know Chloe. She was really popular and will be very sadly missed," she said.

Her friend added: "They were both funny and really lively - very popular people.

"There were so many tears at school this morning. Chloe's classmates couldn't continue. They had to go home. They were just too upset."

The pupil said dozens of messages were being posted on a special Memory Board at the school for shared tributes.

One card at the accident scene reads: "Everybody will miss you so much. You won't be forgotten."

Other teenagers paying their respects at the crash site spoke of two "much-loved, popular, fun and lively" young people.

Both were said to come from Thornton and to have been key members of Friday "Club Nights" - informal gatherings of teenage friends in the tight-knit community.

Chloe and Isaac were described as "best mates".

A friend of Isaac described him as "the class clown".

"He was so popular - he made everyone laugh," he said.

A poem written by a school friend and placed with the flowers reads: "Memories of your smiling faces are with us every day. We'll treasure them with all our hearts since you've gone away."

Another poignant note reads: "Good night. Sleep with the angels now. God bless."

Fellow pupil Paige Lloyd, 15, of Clayton, said she was devastated by what had happened to her friends.

She said: "They were great friends and didn't deserve this.

"Chloe was really bubbly and Isaac was really laid back.

"She liked going out with her mates and Isaac did lots of sporty stuff, like football.

"I had known Chloe since I was about 12. We have had a special assembly at the school and we have got a big bucket for donations which will go to their parents."

John Weir, head teacher at Thornton Grammar School, said: "We have done two special assemblies.

"The reaction in the school is one of shock right across the students and staff as well. I gave the staff briefing and the reaction of the staff was one of great distress.

"They were both well-liked in school and popular with their peers. Both had quite a lot of potential which sadly we are not going to see come to fruition.

"Chloe was in year 11 and Isaac was in year ten. We are making plans for what will happen over the next few days.

"I am visiting the families because it's important that we make personal contact.

"There's a collection going on and we have taken some flowers from the school up to the village. It's a tight-knit community and there are a lot of floral tributes up there already."

Chloe and Isaac died when an allegedly stolen silver Peugeot 206 car hit a building and two other cars.

Fire crews from Bradford and Fairweather Green spent 30 minutes cutting them free and paramedics battled to save them.

Police have appealed for anyone who might have seen the accident, or the car before the crash, to contact Bradford North CID on 0845 6060606.
