A man was taken to hospital with serious injuries after he became trapped under a stolen car in Listing Lane, Gomersal, last night.

Three cars, a red Vauxhall Astra, a blue Vauxhall Astra and a grey Mercedes coupe, were involved in a collision. The two Astras had previously been reported as stolen.

Firefighters from Cleckheaton, Morley and Batley used pneumatic equipment to lift one of the Astras to release the man, who is in his early 20s.

A major incident unit was also called to the scene at 8.48pm.

A spokesman for the fire service said that at one point the two cars were side by side with the man's legs free in one car but his body trapped under the other.

A West Yorkshire Ambulance spokesman confirmed that the man had been taken to Leeds General Infirmary along with another man, also in his early 20s.

Police are investigating and appealing for witnesses.

Anyone who saw the collision should contact Dewsbury CID on 0845 6060606.
