SIXTH form, college or further learning can be difficult enough as it is, but there are those who still go the extra mile to support others while taking a leading role in extra curricular activities.

The shortlist for this award included: Alex Watson from Askham Bryan College, Sabah Nisa from Copthorne Primary School and Angel Dudek from Beckfoot School.

The winner of the award was Sabah Nisa, who has "blossomed" during her time working and studying at Copthorne Primary and is a member valued by the students and the wider community.

Sabah said she felt "overwhelmed" at being announced as the winner, but is grateful for the opportunity she has been given.

She has been studying at Copthorne Primary for the last two years, working on an apprenticeship in early years.

She completed her level 2 in 12 months and is due to finish her level 3 this year.

Sabah gave a massive "thank you" to her tutor, Jill Flowers from FW Solutions, and her manager, Nikol Rainbank.

She said she wouldn't be where she is without them.

Sabah added: "It's just been amazing to get that sort of experience when you start a new job.

"There's always difficulties but people have been so caring and they've helped me and motivated me.

"They've just always been there for me."

Mrs Rainbank, who nominated Sabah, said she has "blossomed" from a very quiet individual to a confident, happy and knowledgeable worker within the school.

She added that Sabah is not only highly thought of by her students, but also by parents in the community.

The coronavirus pandemic has left Sabah itching to get back to school.

She said: "It's been such a big jump, it's been such a long time.

"I'm really happy about getting back into the routine and seeing the kids.

"I've just missed them, having so much time off and working from home."
