PLANS to build housing at the site of a former pub in Thackley have been refused by Bradford Council.

The Shoulder of Mutton on Leeds Road was converted into housing after a change of use application was approved by Bradford Council in 2015.

Earlier this year, applications to build more homes at the site were submitted - one for nine houses on a plot of land behind the former pub, submitted by Gurjit Singh and another, submitted by R Yeadon, for two houses to be built on land next to the building - facing out on Leeds Road.

But both set of plans have now been refused by Bradford Council.

44 people had objected to the plans for nine homes, with four people objecting to the plans for two homes.

The nine house development would have seen access from Leeds Rod via a new link road.

But planning officers said the application for nine homes had "a number of shortcomings" including the design of the new mini estate.

Plan to turn listed pub in Idle into flats is approved

Refusing the plans, officers said the development would create a housing scheme that would be "dominated" by parked cars, and "fails to connect into its surroundings to encourage people to walk around their neighbourhood and live healthy lifestyles."

Other reasons given for refusal included that there were not electric charging points included and that there were not enough visitor parking spaces.

Refusing the two house plans, highways officers said the planned driveways, which would lead straight from the houses onto busy Leeds Road were "unacceptable."

Officers again raised concerns about the lack of electric car charging points with the new homes.
