MORE heartbreaking details have emerged following the discovery a newborn baby girl’s body at a Bradford recycling site.

In an update this afternoon, police said it’s believed the baby was stillborn and it’s likely her mum concealed the pregnancy.

Concerns are growing for her welfare over fears she may require urgent medical care.

Emergency services were scrambled to the Household Waste Recycling Centre site on Bowling Back Lane on Thursday.

The baby girl was wrapped in a pink towel, which depicted the island of Fuerteventura in yellow on a purple background.

There were various pictures associated with tropical locations on the towel also including fish, sea horses and a palm tree.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “A post mortem examination has been conducted and it is believed the baby was stillborn.

“It is likely that this may have been a concealed pregnancy and the baby was not born in a hospital setting, so the mum of the baby may need urgent medical attention.

“Police and partner agencies are extremely concerned about the mum of the baby and are urging her, or any friends or family members to come forward to help get her the help and support she may need.”

Sara Hollins, Head of Midwifery at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, added: “We are very concerned about the mum of the baby and her welfare.

“Because of the nature and circumstances of the birth, we consider that the mother will be highly likely to have physical complications that require urgent medical care, which is why we are so concerned and anxious to find her, and she will also be experiencing significant emotional distress.”

She said the mother of the baby is likely to be “extremely scared and very vulnerable” right now and added: “We’re really appealing to either the mum herself or to any friends, family members, that may suspect that this person has had a baby recently, comes forward to either the police or to the maternity services directly and we can ensure that she gets the help and care that she really needs at this time.

“Our main priority is to make sure that this mum is safe and well and gets the care that she really needs at this time.
