A SCULPTOR has produced a maquette depicting the epic charity fundraising walk undertaken by Keighley-born Captain Sir Tom Moore.
The work, by Chichester-based Vincent Gray, shows the national hero surrounded by NHS staff who are displaying their appreciation.
It is currently on display as part of an exhibition at the Oxmarket Gallery in Chichester, which runs until Sunday, August 23.
And Mr Gray – a member of the Royal Society of Sculptors – is planning to upscale the piece to lifesize, cast in bronze.
“During lockdown I have been working from home producing sculptural maquettes in an effort to stimulate the market,” he said.
“The first of these was the one based on Captain Tom during his epic walk, in a tribute to his achievement.”
Captain Sir Tom, who now lives in Bedfordshire, set out to walk 100 laps of his garden by his 100th birthday to raise money for NHS charities. His original target was to raise £1,000, but his exploits captured the nation’s hearts and he coined-in nearly £33 million.
He has since received a string of awards and honours, including a knighthood.
