A BRADFORD restaurant has celebrated Pakistan Independence Day in an unusual way in the city today.
The coronavirus restrictions on Bradford had seen the originally planned celebrations cancelled.
However, Saleem Akhtar, CEO of Jinnah Restaurant, and Imran Khan, owner of IK Collections, got on a horse each at the Leeds Road restaurant and had a huge cake for the annual celebration.
Mr Akhtar said: “As with the restrictions in Bradford, we had to cancel our big celebrations planned at Cedar Court and the Bradford Hotel.
“We still followed the guidelines for today’s celebrations.
“We will also be celebrating with the customers we have had at the restaurant today.
“We had a nice big cake and we have been holding a celebration every year at Jinnah since we first opened here.”
Independence Day, observed annually on August 14, is a national holiday in Pakistan. It commemorates the day when Pakistan achieved independence and was declared a sovereign state following the end of the British Raj in 1947
