SIGNS installed at a car park without permission "cause detriment to the heritage value" of a historic village - according to planning officers.
Bradford Council has this week refused a retrospective planning application to install five signs in the car park are of the Old Sun Hotel in Haworth - now a pay and display car park.
The application for the West Lane car park was submitted by Smart Parking after the signs had already been installed.
It was refused due to the signs' impact on the Haworth Conservation Area.
Haworth is famous for being the home of the Bronte sisters, and much of the village is in a Conservation Area - meaning any changes are much more highly scrutinised.
Retrospective plans for dormer on listed, Haworth Conservation Area building are refused
The Council's Conservation Officer Jon Ackroyd said: "The proposed installations are not sympathetic in material choice and are some are highly visible from the public highway.
"West Lane is a key approach to the village centre and the visibility of this signage detracts from the aesthetic of the streetscape and conservation area."
Haworth, Cross Roads And Stanbury Parish Council had objected to the plans, as had local ward Councillor Rebecca Poulsen.
Refusing the plans, officers said: "There are no public benefits to this proposal that outweigh the negative impact caused to the character and setting."
