ANOTHER of the District’s Household Waste Recycling Centres will re-open on on Saturday.
All the District’s tips were closed in late March due to the Coronavirus pandemic, with many staff re-deployed to other areas, but this months a number have been re-opened, attracting thousands of visits in just a few days.
On Saturday the Dowley Gap HWRC in Bingley will join the five that have already opened.
Since May 11, 40,000 visits to HWRCs have been made with residents taking advantage of the lockdown to clear out rubbish and tidy their gardens.
At the Dealburn Road, Low Moor, and Midland Road, Bradford, sites there has been an increase of 77 per cent of general waste deposited (183 tonnes) and garden waste of 49 per cent (86 tonnes) in the same period last year.
The Council says it is hoping to have the remaining two HWRCs – Keighley, Sugden End and Queensbury, Ford Hill, open as soon as possible.

Dowley Gap HWRC will open from Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm, Saturday 8am to 4pm and Sunday 9am to 4pm.
Cllr Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Healthy People and Places, said: “The re-opening of the HWRCs has proved extremely popular with our residents as the figures show.
“Many people have been taking advantage of the lockdown to complete DIY projects, have a massive spring clean or tidy their gardens.
“We hope to be able to return to all eight sites open and operating at normal opening times as soon as we can.
“We are trying very hard to get our services back to normal without increasing the risk to health of our residents and staff.”
The opening hours at previously opened HWRCs are also returning to normal. From Saturday the opening hours at HWRCs are as follows:
Dealburn Road, Low Moor: Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm, Saturday 8am to 4pm and Sunday 9am to 4pm.
Midland Road, Bradford: Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm, Saturday 8am to 4pm and Sunday 9am to 4pm.
Golden Butts Road, Ilkley: Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm, Saturday 8am to 4pm and Sunday 9am to 4pm.
