BULKY waste collection services will resume on Monday - and will include collection of garden waste.

Bradford Council's bulky waste service – which was suspended due to Covid-19 – has been reinstated using a specialist company able to operate the service in a safe manner.

The Council says this is a temporary arrangement until it can safely re-instate its in house bulk collection service.

Collections were ended at the start of lockdown due to concerns over the safety of staff collecting large items from numerous different households each day.

There is a charge which people can book and pay for over the phone or the Council website.

Household waste centres in Bradford to re-open by Monday

Items that will be collected include furniture, beds, bikes, carpets, mattresses, garden furniture, mirrors, boilers and bags of garden waste. For a full list see the Council website which contains a list of charges which are £20 for up to five items to £40 for six to 10 items.

Certain household waste recycling centres also re-open on Monday, although Council bosses have urged people to use the collection service to prevent overloading tips.

Cllr Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Healthy People and Places, said: “Please bear in mind that there are likely to be long queues for the Household Waste sites in the first days of opening.

“This deadly virus takes every opportunity to spread when people congregate, so for the safety of yourselves, other residents and staff, please take advantage of bulky waste collection service or store your rubbish at home for as long as possible.”
