CULLINGWORTH children got sweet treats as a thank-you for working hard and completing their schoolwork during the lockdown.

Greggs the baker donated 500 doughnuts to be shared between children of key workers who still attend Cullingworth Village Primary School and those forced to take lessons at home.

The delivery was organised by the school's special educational needs teacher Elena O'Hare and her husband Shaun, coordinator of Keighley Big Local.

Around 150 children who are being home-schooled walked to school as their hour of daily exercise. Around 30 children of key workers are attending lessons at school each week.

Kate Sutcliffe, the school head, thanked the O'Hares for organising the donation.

She said: "Parents and pupils were thrilled with the doughnuts and to have the opportunity to meet with school staff and other parents and children.

"They thanked us for all our hard work and the great service the school is providing during the lockdown."

Jeni Gerhardt said she was glad the donuts went down well with the children.

She said: "We’ve been really proud to support key workers in all industries, with more than 70,000 doughnuts treats across Leeds, Huddersfield, Halifax, Bradford and Keighley in the last week.

"It’s been a team effort at Greggs picking and packing donations at Greggs Bakery in Bramley, Leeds."
