PEOPLE in communities across Bradford and its surrounding areas were out making a joyful racket to champion the NHS tonight.

At 8pm every Thursday, for the past few weeks, people have been taking part in the country-wide "Clap for our Carers".

It's a real showing of what community is all about, harking back to a bygone era, with households coming out, clapping, making noise and getting a glimpse of each other during the lockdown.

All this while showing support for all NHS staff who have been working tirelessly to battle the coronavirus crisis.

Reporter, Brad Deas, took to the streets of his local area, Rawdon, to see how they were doing it.

People turned out in their droves, with neighbours greeting each other from a distance and many banging pans alongside the claps.

One van driver even stopped on his errands, got out, and clapped with the community.

Meanwhile, at Bradford Royal Infirmary, the Akoustix Drummers were on hand to help ramp up the volume.

They were joined by NHS staff in scrubs just outside the entrance to Accident and Emergency (A&E), with bystanders and other emergency service personnel getting involved.

At 8pm, the clapping began and passing cars even joined in by honking their horns.

Then, the Akoustix Drummers got going and that really got the spine tingling with pride for our NHS and community.
