A 99-YEAR-OLD army veteran from Keighley has raised more than £8million for the NHS in a matter of days.
Captain Tom Moore has made headlines across the nation's papers by walking 100 laps of his garden by his 100th birthday.
Taking 10 laps a day, the inspiration has raised a whopping £8,725,288.46, beating his original target of £1,000.
The captain, who uses a walking frame to help him, will walk his final 10 laps tomorrow.
Sharing his excitement with followers on Twitter, he said: "8 MILLION POUNDS!!!
"I’m speechless.....
"This amount of money will help the #NHS beyond what we ever thought was imaginable.
"Thank you to everyone that’s helped me get there."
Tom was born and bred in Keighley and attended Keighley Grammar School student before taking up an apprenticeship as a civil engineer.
He was part of 8 DWR (145 RAC) at the beginning of the war, and, in 1940, he was selected for officer training.He was later posted to 9DWR in India, and served and fought on the Arakan, went to regiment to Sumatra after the Japanese surrender and returned to be instructor at armoured fighting vehicle school in Bovington.
