A MAN aged 25 has been jailed for ten months after leading the police on a high speed ten-minute chase across Bradford.
Jibran Rehman, of Back Girlington Road, Bradford, was sentenced at Bradford Crown Court on a video link to Leeds Prison, where he was being held on remand, and via the Skype service.
He had been committed to the Crown Court after pleading guilty at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates’ Court to dangerous driving, failing to provide a specimen and possession of cannabis.
Prosecutor Beverley Wright told the court that police officers on patrol in Chase Way, Wibsey, at around 4pm on March 21 this year spotted Rehman at a petrol station and followed his silver Nissan Almera.
Rehman failed to stop for the patrol vehicle and accelerated away along Odsal Top and on to Smiddles Lane and Little Horton Lane.
The pursuit continued at double the 30mph speed limit along Little Horton Lane and Great Horton Road on to Sunderland Road in Manningham.
Miss Wright said that Rehman drove on the wrong side of the road and jumped a red light while a pedestrian was waiting at a crossing.
He went on the wrong side of a traffic island on Smiddles Lane and overtook other vehicles dangerously and while breaking the speed limit.
Rehman then collided with another car that hit a vehicle with two women taking cover behind it.
At that point, the police broke off the pursuit but found the Almera abandoned in Victor Road, Manningham.
Rehman was arrested on nearby Park View Road.
He was jailed for eight months for dangerous driving and for two months to run consecutively for failing to provide a specimen. There was no separate penalty for the possession of cannabis offence.
Judge Colin Burn banned him from driving for three years and five months.
