POLICE have been working with other organisations to disrupt an OCG (organised crime gang) operating in Shipley.
Inspector Craig Stothers from the Shipley Neighbourhood Policing team revealed that the partnership was working to disrupt a gang linked to a number of burglaries in the area.
Members of Bradford Council's Shipley Area Committee were told of the work at a meeting in Shipley Town Hall on Wednesday night - when they heard that the different organisations were meeting the following day.
They were told that West Yorkshire Police had "mapped" a number of criminal groups responsible for drug dealing and burglary across the district.
Recently this work had led to a number of criminals appearing in court charged with drug dealing - a result of the force's Operation Errantdance.
Rival organised crime groups caused 'serious disorder' in town - police report reveals
Thursday's partner meeting was in response to an OCG that had been identified as operating mainly in the Shipley Constituency.
Insp Stothers told the meeting: "We aim to get into the OCG for maximum disruption. We have to break the cycle of younger people getting involved.
"We'll have people from probation, offender management and even Barnardos coming in."
He said the charity was involved due to a young person, currently incarcerated, being involved with that particular OCG.
Work would be done to help rehabilitate the young man to prevent him falling back into the clutches of the criminals when he is released.
The meeting heard that a number of criminal groups targeted vulnerable young people, and groomed them into a life of crime.
