A FEMALE pedestrian has suffered life-threatening injuries after a collision involving a HGV.

Police were called to the crash on Market Street, in Heckmondwike, at around 11.06am this morning.

The pedestrian has sustained life-threatening injuries, a police spokesperson confirmed.

It is believed the casualty is an elderly woman, according to a number of sources.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area, with the road blocked for much of the day.

It reopened at around 4.10pm, according to the AA's traffic page.
