LONG-STANDING friends Riffat Akram and Molly Kenyon love introducing visitors to people and places in our city.

From March 3-5 they will be hosting two Palestinian teachers, and inviting other Bradfordians to meet them.

Since 2006, an annual visit to the UK by Palestinian women has been organised by London-based CADFA (Camden-Abu Dis Friendship Association). The visit is held in March to include International Women’s Day. Those visiting Bradford are Fatheya Abu Hilal and Im Shadi Hussain.

They will speak at a Palestine Solidarity Campaign evening on Tuesday 3rd March at the Delius Centre, 29 Great Horton Road. There will be a bring-and-share meal at 5.30 and the talk at 6pm are open to all.

Visitors will take part in BCB radio’s “About Bradford” programme from 11-noon on Wednesday 4th March. Anyone wishing to meet them informally can come to the Peace Museum at noon on March 4 – bring your packed lunch! They will be looking at items from the collection with curator Charlotte Hall, and discuss links between the museum’s peace-making activities and the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.

Fatheya and Im Shadi will also meet the committee of the Muslim Women’s Council and attend an inter-faith house group. On Thursday 5th March they will share in the weekly reflection and lunch at the Touchstone Centre, including discussion of the long-running Faith to Faith Project.

Riffat will host an evening for women to share food and talk about wide-ranging issues affecting the lives of women across the world. While Fatheya enjoys singing, so Molly will arrange an informal singaround.

The organisers said: "This is a visit to strengthen friendship and understanding in Bradford as well as to raise awareness of what is happening in Palestine and Israel."
