SHIPLEY firefighters have had to rescue a driver from flood water in Dock Lane, Shipley, this morning as warning have gone out to motorists not to drive past road closed signs.
The man reportedly decided to drive through water underneath the railway bridge where the road d and became stranded.
A fire crew was called out to rescue him and his vehicle, a Honda HRV.
West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service continue to urge the public not to make journeys unless essential and never to drive through flood water.
The fire service has reported a busy day yesterday due as a result of Storm Ciara.
Between 8am and 8pm crews have attended 170 incidents across West Yorkshire.
It said at times there were more than 20 fire engines dealing with incidents across the county.
There were 765 emergency calls come into the Control room during the 12-hour period.
There were more than 50 rescues carried out in water-related incidents.
It was a very busy day but the service said they were pleased that no serious injuries had been reported as a result of these incidents.
As rainfall eased in the evening, the situation improved.
The service were keeping a close eye on river levels in North Leeds, in Otley, and in Wakefield, specifically around the Castleford area.
Staff were working closely with its partners and Emergency Planning Teams within the local authorities.
Today its district teams will be returning to worst hit areas to support communities with the recovery efforts.
The statement added: "Firefighters have worked incredibly hard across West Yorkshire and we are very proud of their determined actions to keep communities safe, alongside that of our Control Room staff and officers on the ground."
