THIS is the stunning transformation a well-known former pub building has undergone to become an opulent restaurant.
No expense has been spared on the new Lala’s restaurant on Leeds and Bradford Road in Pudsey, which opened its doors in the New Year.
The building was previously The Farmers pub, then Family Fayre and Lahori before its major refurbishment to become Lala’s Restaurant, which stands on a prime position on the major route between Bradford and Leeds.
It adds to Lala’s suite of other restaurants in West Yorkshire, which focus on Kashmiri cuisine and an “exceptional dining experience”.
Owner Junior Rashid told the Telegraph & Argus: “I really took a liking to the place.
“There’s a lot of eateries on Leeds Road, I wanted to create my own stance.
“It’s a landmark building - it was a very popular place back in the day.”
He added: “The wonderful thing about it - it’s bang in the middle of Leeds and Bradford - we’ve got the best of both worlds.”
Mr Rashid said he didn’t want to create “another curry house” and the emphasis was on making it a luxury, five-star dining experience, with “no expense spared”.
The major revamp has taken around eight months and included sandblasting the building and bringing custom-made furniture over from Italy to top the interior off.
Mr Rashid said the finished look has exceeded his expectations.
“It looks like a mansion from outside.
“They [customers] have been blown away by the whole fit, service and look.
“They couldn’t believe it’s the same place.”
At the heart of the restaurant is the emphasis on customer service, with the aim of going the extra mile to make people feel “a million dollars”.
The new restaurant marks another offering for curry lovers to try.
Like Lala’s, Kashmiri Aroma’s new restaurant on Keighley Road, near Lister Park, used to be The Turf pub.
It had been closed for a few years, but has recently been transformed into the new eating spot.
Then further down in Shipley, the Crafty Indian has opened on Bradford Road and blends top quality beer and authentic Indian street food.
According to a survey carried out by Sainsbury’s, 23 million Brits love to eat the spicy dishes regularly.
There are almost 10,000 curry houses across Britain and each person will spend an average £30,000 in a lifetime on curry.
