A BRADFORD bassline group has been named in a run-down of the top 50 new artists 'to watch' in 2020 by a national newspaper.

Selected by The Guardian's music editor Ben Beaumont-Thomas and deputy music editor Laura Snapes, BBCC Bad Boy Chiller Crew was noted for making "ridiculously enjoyable bassline house anthems topped with dextrous patter about beer, designer clothes and the excellence of an obscure Teesside car wash called Billy's".

The MC trio is made up of West Bowling's Gareth Kelly and Kane Welsh and Sam Robinson who both grew up in Eccleshill as well as Tony Lovell.

Since starting out in 2018, the band has had offers from record labels, performed a headline show with DJ Evian Christ and will film a documentary to be released this year.

The group has grown into a "hyperlocal phenomenon" with Gareth saying they "can't go anywhere in Bradford" without being recognised.

Writing in The Guardian, Ben Beaumont-Thomas said: "A hyperlocal phenomenon in their native Bradford, Bad Boy Chiller Crew make ridiculously enjoyable bassline house anthems topped with dextrous patter about beer, designer clothes and *checks notes* the excellence of an obscure Teesside car wash called Billy’s. They’re the sort of people that get dismissed as chavs (or, to use their reclaimed Bradford version, “charvas”), but their breezy good humour is what makes this country great – and tracks such as 450 and Pablo genuinely bang."

The review was described as an "early present" by Gareth, who first met his future band mates through sharing funny videos online.

It's this shared humour that sparked an entire brand for BBCC who often rack up millions of views with videos of band banter.

Now the focus is turning back to music, earning 120million listens online in 2019 and doing a collab with S DOG, known by day as Shamy Kahn.

One of their videos beat Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber on the trending page of Youtube.

Gareth told the Telegraph & Argus: "Everyone does their own bars and we just put it together to make it - that's why it bangs. It's got everybody's little touch to it.

"We can't go anywhere in Bradford. Everyone knows who the Bad Boy Chiller Crew are. If we're doing an event, everyone comes along."

And 2020 is set to be even bigger for BBCC with manager Darren Booth, who took on the role after spotting their potential on social media, planning to sign the band to a record label soon.
