A PENSIONER was rushed to hospital this morning after he became impaled on railings.

Police were also called to the scene at 9:01am by the fire service, to reports of a man, in his eighties, who had become impaled on railings.

The incident happened near Woodhall Road, in Calverley, close to its junction with Upper Carr Lane and Foxholes Lane.

A rapid response vehicle was sent, as well as an ambulance and the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART).

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance was also at the scene.

Firefighters removed the man from the railings and he was taken to Leeds General Infirmary (LGI) by road ambulance for emergency treatment, a police spokesperson said.

Woodhall Road was closed for part of the morning as emergency services dealt with the situation.

It has since reopened, but a scene remains in place pending updates on the man's condition.
