Cars containing both police and medical staff will be in operation in Bradford city centre to provide a swift combined response to potential outbreaks of ‘Mad Friday’ mayhem.

Officers in Bradford are ready for an “interesting shift” and are warning revellers to drink responsibly and know their limits.

Two years ago, Bradford’s ‘Mad Friday’ celebrations hit the national headlines when three police officers were assaulted in two hours as violence flared.

This year, the emergency services will have two police-medical vehicles in operation - each containing two police special constables and a paramedic.

Officers who are due to work the shift have taken to social media in anticipation of one of their most hectic nights of the year.

Acting Section Officer Mohammed tweeted: “Looking forward to a Mad Friday shift this week where there will be 2 POLMED cars, each consisting of 2 Specials and 1 Paramedic. Should be busy working around the Bradford District. 🚔🚑”

Special Constable Crossley responded: “Me and Jonny will be on Response on Friday so may bump into you at some point.”

Special Constable Sinfield tweeted: “Working tomorrow on 'Mad Friday' as one of two POLMED units in and round the @WYP_BradfordC area...I'm sure it's bound to be an...interesting... shift!

“Please drink responsibly and know your limits... end your night in a taxi rather than a police car, ambulance or a hearse!”

West Yorkshire Police’s contact management centre issued a message stating: “In preparation for tomorrow....we cannot stress enough that if you are going out and enjoying the festive period to be safe and responsible.

“Know your limits with alcohol. Get home safe, book a taxi and make sure your phone has plenty charge.”
