A MULTI-VEHICLE crash on a major commuter motorway saw nine mile queues and delays of an hour long this morning.

The incident happened at around 6:42am on the M62 westbound carriageway between junction 26 (M606, Chain Bar) and junction 25 (Wakefield Road, Brighouse).

It is believed four cars were involved but there were no injuries, according to police.

Three of the westbound carriageway's four lanes were closed initially.

All traffic was temporarily held between 6:55am and 7:25am, while emergency services dealt with the situation.

Lane four remained shut for much of the morning, but reopened at 8:43am after the impacted vehicles were recovered.

There were still severe delays after this, with queues of nine miles.

At the height of traffic, vehicles were stretching all the way back to junction 28 (Tingley).

Highways England also stated normal journeys would take around 60 minutes longer.

A witness said there was residual traffic issues on Tong Street, coming into Bradford, as drivers tried avoid the motorway queues.

Congestion began to ease at around 9:33am.
