THE fire service were called to reports of two early morning water rescues yesterday.

West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service (WYFRS) attended the first incident at around 4:19am.

Appliances from Shipley, Bradford and Bingley Fire Stations went to the scene.

Crew members found a male in water, just off Valley Road, in Shipley.

A spokesperson for WYFRS said: "One male was led from the water and he was suffering from the effects of cold."

In what is believed to be an unrelated incident, crews were then called out to a report of a woman who needed rescuing from water.

This was just over half-an-hour after the first incident, with the call coming in at 4:58pm.

Four fire crews rushed to the scene at Hirst Weir, just off Higher Coach Road.

This included Shipley, Bradford and Bingley again.

There was also an appliance from Leeds in attendance.

When fire officers arrived the woman was out of the water.

She was also found to be suffering from the effects of cold.

Both Leeds and Bingley Fire Stations have specialist emergency vehicles for flooding incidents.

Bingley helped with rescue operations in South Yorkshire last month after intense rainfall.
