A 27-YEAR-OLD man twice caught dangerous driving and selling cannabis on the streets of the district has been jailed for a total of two years and four months.

Azhar Dad, of Clarendon Street, Ingrow, Keighley, was at the wheel of an Audi A3 when he was pursued by the police between Goulbourne Street and Church Row in Keighley at 7pm on July 19, 2017.

Dad failed to stop, drove on the wrong side of the road and ran a red light before abandoning the car on Morrisons car park, off Worth Way, and fleeing into the store.

He was apprehended in possession of a large amount of cash and 22.6 grams of cannabis, the court heard.

Dad next came to the attention of the police on August 28, 2017, when he was stopped in a Volkswagen Golf on Victoria Road, Keighley.

There were bags of cannabis in the car and his passenger, Adam Croad, 26, of Catherine Street, Keighley, was in possession of a small amount of the drug that he had bought from Dad.

While he was on bail, Dad was chased by the police at 2.50am on February 7 last year.

Prosecutor John Hobley said he was driving a VW Golf during the eight-minute pursuit in Keighley.

Three police vehicles were after him as he accelerated to 70mph in a 40 zone.

He also hit a kerb and drove on the wrong side of the road, the court herd.

Dad fled from the car but was traced though the vehicle.

He pleaded guilty to two offences of dangerous driving and two counts of possession of cannabis with intent to supply.

The court heard in mitigation that he was a man of good character before committing the offences.

He was a low level “one man band” street dealer with only a couple of hundred pounds worth of cannabis.

Dad had since taken positive steps to rid himself of his cannabis habit.

He sped away from the police officers in 2017 because he did not want them to find the cannabis.

The pursuit had not resulted in any injury or damage, the court was told.

The first offence of dangerous driving was two and a half years ago and the second early last year.

Dad cared for his elderly parents, a role that would now be taken on by his wife.

He was jailed for a total of 28 months and banned from driving for four years and two months.

Croad, who pleaded guilty to simple possession of cannabis, was fined £400.
