A DEATH over the weekend is not thought to be suspicious, police said this morning.

Police confirmed they have been called to Old Road, Thornton to reports of someone locating a "deceased person".

Officers had just arrived at 3:28pm and were securing the scene.

A picture seen by the T&A showed at least three police cars on the road, with an ambulance in attendance as well.

UPDATE: Police name man found dead in Thornton

A police spokesperson said: "It does appear on first contact that we're dealing with a male who has passed away.

"We're uncertain on the cause of death."

On Monday morning a police spokesperson added that initial indications were that the death was not suspicious, saying:

"At 2.27pm yesterday (Sunday), police received a report of a body which had been found in Old Road, Thornton.

"Emergency services attended but sadly the male was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The deceased is believed to have been in his forties.

"His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file has been prepared for the Coroner.”
