YORKSHIRE Diwali brought a celebration of ‘light over darkness’ to Pudsey for the annual Hindu festival.
Diwali, also known as Deepavali, is the Hindu festival of lights which praises knowledge over ignorance.
Diwali was celebrated last Sunday, October 27, but events are held in various cities before and on the day by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains.
Organised by Yorkshire Indian Business Network, more than 400 people visited Pudsey Civic Hall for colourful performances and dinner. MP Stuart Andrew (Cons, Pudsey) gave a poignant speech about the need for communities to come together.
On the day, there were colourful performances from more than 35 groups of children and adults.
