A CITY watering hole is to close its doors for nearly five weeks to allow a refurbishment and extension to go ahead.
City Vaults, in Hustlergate, will temporarily shut from Sunday until Thursday, November 21.
Builders will move in during the closure to complete a full refurbishment of the pub, which will see 175 extra covers added.
The closure will also allow for the extension of City Vaults into the former Redfern Travel shop in Piece Hall Yard.
It is hoped the extension will see the pub able to accommodate more parties during Christmas.
The plans included replacing the modern ground floor frontage of the shop in the hope of bringing new life into the historic street - complete with outdoor seating.
The empty building’s basement would become a new kitchen area and dining area, with the ground floor level being an expanded dining area for
the pub.
Doug Stewart, a project manager for City Vaults, said regular customers can still go to their sister pub during the closure.
He said: “If any customers are looking for an alternative arrangement, we recommend our sister pub, The Old Bank, in Market Street.”
