MORE than 9,000 sexual offences against children were recorded in the region in 2018/19, new figures have revealed.
Data obtained by the NSPCC showed 9,394 out of 76,204 crimes against children took place in Yorkshire and the Humber.
These include rape, sexual assault and grooming of children.
The NSPCC is calling for a radical reshaping of how this support is delivered across the country. because overstretched services are failing to keep pace with demand
Peter Wanless, NSPCC CEO, said: "We need a radical rethink in the way we help these young people, otherwise they could struggle for the rest of their lives with long term, deep seated trauma."
