A THOUSAND visitors turned up to a fire station open day at the weekend.
Shipley Fire Station welcomed in the general public for the first time since it opened two years ago.
The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Doreen Lee, launched the event, where children and adults alike were treated to two intense demonstrations.
There was insight into how the fire service deals with road traffic collisions, through the simulation of a rescue from a car.
This included a roof removal.
There was also a technical rescue demo, where a simulated casualty was lowered from a tower to the ground by a rope with a firefighter.
One firefighter, Adi Gill, even got a soaking after he was dropped from a ducking stool.
A variety of fire service vehicles were displayed as well.
It included a fire engine from Cleckheaton Fire Station, Bradford's aerial appliance, and Bingley's water rescue vehicle and boat.
There was also a band playing music.
A Shipley Fire Station spokesperson said: "The aim of the event was to raise funds for two great charities, the Firefighters Charity and Cash for Kids.
"It was also an opportunity to allow the community to come to the station."
