TWO men and a woman are on trial accused of attempted murder after a gun was fired at a house in Bradford.

Twin brothers, Ummar and Khuram Yaqoob, 30, and Kiran Bi Hussain, 24, are said to have intended to kill Hamza Nazir when a shot was discharged in Agar Street, Girlington, shortly after 10.30pm on March 31.

Ummar Yaqoob, of Hill Top Mount, Oakwood, Leeds; Khuram Yaqoob, of Daisy Hill Lane, Bradford, and Hussain, of Ophelia Close, Little Horton, Bradford, all deny attempting to murder Mr Nazir in a dispute over a stolen car.

All three have also pleaded not guilty to possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

The jury at Bradford Crown Court has been told that Ummar Yaqoob admits possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

Hussain has pleaded guilty to two offences of possession of a slam gun and she and Ummar Yaqoob have admitted manufacturing prohibited firearms.

The court has heard that Mr Nazir rang 999 at 10.36pm on the Sunday evening after a single shot was fired at the living room window from the pavement.

Prosecutor David Gordon alleged that the motive for the shooting was the theft of a black BMW belonging to the Yaqoobs’ sister.

Following the arrest of all three defendants, Ummar Yaqoob told the police where to find components of a firearm and live ammunition that were hidden in the Daisy Hill area, the jury was told.

On May 22, he drew a plan to help officers to locate the items that were recovered by the police the following day.

Members of the Organised Crime Unit found a cardboard package containing two live shotgun cartridges and a threaded screw cap concealed behind an electricity box at the junction of Daisy Hill Lane and Daisy Hill Grove.

A further search on wasteland behind a bus stop uncovered two metal pipes. The shorter of them had a threaded end that matched the screw cap found behind the electricity box.

Ummar Yaqoob said the pipes had been on the waste ground for around two months.

In a prepared statement to the police, he said: “I am not guilty of attempted murder and I had no involvement in the incident on Agar Street. I have not attempted to kill anybody.”

Khuram Yaqoob told officers he had not discharged a firearm on Agar Street and he was not involved in any of the alleged offences.

The jury heard that CCTV footage confirmed that he was at a block of flats on Manchester Road, Bradford, with friends at the time of the shooting.

Film footage recovered by the police showed him walking into the building at 9.30pm with a bag of takeaway food.

After the shooting, Hussain searched the internet to answer the question: “How long does GSR (gunshot residue) stay on clothes?” the jury heard.

She told the police she did not know Hamza Nazir or his family.

She had never been to Agar Street and she had never seen or touched a gun.

Hussain said Ummar Yaqoob asked her to order pipes on the internet but she did not know what they were.

The prosecution case has closed and jury will tomorrow begin to hear evidence for the defence.

The trial continues.
