THE new Sedbergh Leisure Centre will open this Autumn, although an exact date has yet to be announced.
The new Bradford Council run leisure facility will replace the existing Richard Dunn centre, which will be demolished once the new centre opens.
Despite social media posts being circulated this week claiming the Richard Dunn centre would be demolished on September 16, Bradford Council says a date has not yet been set.
The Sedbergh centre has been built on the former Sedbergh playing fields site between Cleckheaton Road and Huddersfield Road.
The £17.5 million project will include swimming pools, gym space, indoor sports courts and outdoor pitches.
The Richard Dunn site is currently being marketed to developers. That centre's cycle facilities will be replaced by a new track at the soon to be constructed Wyke Sports Village.
Delight as plans for new Wyke Sports Village are approvedCouncillor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Healthy People and Healthy Places, said: “We are really excited at the progress of Sedbergh Leisure Centre and it is expected to open in autumn.
"This much needed new facility will offer the latest facilities in a modern and energy efficient environment. Richard Dunn Sports Centre will stay open until Sedbergh opens.
"Many people will have very fond memories of Richard Dunn Sports Centre but Sedbergh Leisure Centre will offer so much more.
"As soon as we have a firm date for opening the new facility we will make an announcement.
“We hope this sports centre will inspire more people to get active so they can live a happier, healthier life in the Bradford district.”
