CLASSIC cars, origami craft workshops, tramway trips and outdoor swimming pools are on Bradford’s calendar this summer season.
Launched at the Bradford Festival Schools’ Day in June, Sparkling Bradford Summer brings together all of the season’s events and has seen hundreds of people gather at various experiences over summer– and there are many more events planned in the run up to Autumn.
Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council's Executive Member for Healthy People and Places at Bradford Council, said: “It’s been wonderful to see the return of such a successful programme.
"The Christmas campaign saw a record number of people heading to the district and the summer programme has not disappointed, with hundreds of people enjoying the season’s events. With a fantastic range of events on every week, we’re making Bradford a top summer destination of the North.”
The Broadway, Bradford Council, Made in Bradford, Visit Bradford ad the Bradford BID have partnered up for the campaign.
This weekend will see classic cars on display in the city centre, while Little Germany will be welcoming guests for the Shuttle Shuffle music, art and spoken word festival
As part of the initiative, the summer trail invites visitors to hunt out balloon stickers for the chance to win £500 in gift vouchers for The Broadway Bradford. Situated in prime locations across the city including the National Science and Media Museum, Bradford Cathedral and The Midland Hotel, 12 stickers can be collected. The competition ends on Saturday, August 31.
David Crossley, manager at The Midland Hotel, added: “It’s been brilliant to be involved in the summer trail this year. We’ve seen a significant increase in people heading to the hotel to collect stickers and there’s been a real buzz around the area. We’ve had some great feedback on how families have enjoyed the trail and it’s fantastic to see so many people participating."
Ian Ward, general manager at The Broadway Bradford and chair of the Bradford BID, added: “Since the start of the summer campaign, we’ve seen a huge increase in footfall at the shopping centre. The range of events this season are tremendous and there’s something to suit everyone.
"It’s phenomenal to see the impact these events have had on the amount of people heading to the district and there has been a real air of excitement throughout the city streets; we’re already looking forward to Sparkling Bradford’s return this Christmas.”
